Edward, a Webelos Scout, loves to read. He is currently participating in BOB, which stands for Battle of the Books. This is Edward’s second year as a participant. He also volunteers in the library at school. Edward received the Irving Park Elementary Citizenship Award and he participates in many community activities, such as assisting in the planting of 150 trees in a neighborhood where he lives. Recently Edward found and returned a purse containing nearly $2,000 in cash. He received a letter from the Carolina Panthers inviting him and three guests to attend the Panthers’ game against the New Orleans Saints. (from the BSA Website)

This is a picture of my son Edward Myers with his Scout Master Tom Franklin shortly after the meeting where it was announced that he had been selected to go to Washington, DC as one of the 8 Scouts to present the 2009 Boy Scouts’ Annual Report to the Nation.

It is quite the honor. To say that we all are excited about him representing The Old North State Council, Troop 316 and his community would be an understatement.

He leaves tomorrow and one of the many parts of  the itinerary could include a possible meeting with the President.

A large part of my family’s heritage on all sides, for generations, has been built on a history of military service. My brother Justin Douglas Myers is the latest to extend this tradition. He ships out for Army basic training on Jan 19.

Our family is very grateful for his offer of service to our country.

He has now joined all of our military personnel in our thoughts and prayers.

I love you little brother.

…he never leaves home without her!

Update: This post, put up lightly for chuckles..has by far become my most visited. Now, Janice in the comments points out a possible interesting connection.

Is the person depicted in the drivers license above the same one pictured here on America’s Most Wanted?

I caught this announcement recently over the loud speaker at the Las Vegas airport mixed amongst plane arrivals, departures, warnings of look out for suspicious activity and don’t watch bags for strangers.

"The gentleman that left his false teeth and hearing aids in the Mens restroom can claim them at the main desk………………… that’s if you can hear this"

converge.gifThe 2007 Converge South Tech Users Conference is coming up again October 19-20 here in Greensboro, NC. If you have not registered yet you can go here.

Looking at the different sessions, it just seems to get better and better every year and I can think of no other place I would rather be, but sadly another prior commitment (in Minnesota) will not allow me to attend this year.

If you go…eat a plate of that real Southern BBQ for me :)
